For surface defects on optical components
MICROS Optics test panels are used for visual comparison of surface imperfections such as scratches, holes, cut bubbles, smears, and marks on optical components. Surface defects can be evaluated with the naked eye or a microscope.
MICROS Optics test panels are optically polished Borofloat glass plates on which surface defect sizes are represented by chrome coatings.

The standard specifications of DIN ISO 10110-7 and American standards such as MIL-PRF-13830B and ANSI/OEOSC OP1.002 and other standards are used for this purpose.

Our test panels
Each standard has its own requirements regarding the size and frequency of scratches and digs.
Further specifications, such as restrictions on scratch lengths, defect frequencies, edge protrusions, dependencies on test piece sizes, light sources, and test stations for transmission and reflection testing, can be found in the standard specifications.
To avoid misunderstandings, manufacturers and users should always use the same test method.
- The test panel according to DIN ISO 10110-7 shows the preferred values of step numbers with which surface defects on optical components are compared.
The TEST PANEL FOR COMPARING SCRATCHES AND DIGS test panel shows preferred numbers for dimensions of surface defects that are used according to American standards. The numbers indicate the width in µm for scratches according to ANSI/OEOSC OP1.002 and the diameter in 1/100 mm for holes (digs), whereby all specifications correspond to ANSI/OEOSC OP1.002 and the digs from 5 to 50 also correspond to MIL-PRF-13830B. This test method should not be confused with the subjective comparison method using calibrated samples for scratches according to MIL-PRF-13830B. In our opinion, the objective comparison method with dimensioned scratches – as possible with MICROS OPTICS test panels – is the clearer option for evaluating surface defects in optical systems.
